A few terms turn up more than once in these pages. Here is what they mean here.
- Objective
- the one thing the lesson should make possible by the end
- Materials
- whatever has to be on the table before practice starts
- Spacing
- practicing a little on many days instead of a lot on one
- Retrieval
- pulling something out of memory rather than reading it again
- Report card
- three sentences written on the last day of the month
- Rehearsal card
- the eight evening lines from lesson three
- Teach-back
- explaining this week's skill to a listener, or a chair
- Top line
- the first line of a monthly page, where the skill is named in plain words
- Second chair
- the seat pulled out for a listener, even when nobody is in it
